Rick's Biography:
Well I started out in photography in high school. My folks bought me an SLR and I was immediately hooked. Our high school had a full photography program including a wet B&W darkroom. It was fun back then creating pictures, developing the film and printing/matting/framing the end result. I was in photo heaven!
Then I joined the Air Force and traveled the world. I always had a camera but without access to a darkroom it never really felt fulfilling. I got married had kids did the parenthood thing and left photography behind, as I knew it to be – a full wet darkroom.
The kids are growing up now and the world of photography has drastically changed. In the meantime I’ve grown into a prosperous career as a Systems Administrator. I love computing! They pay me to do what I love so yeah I’m spoiled.
Now comes the melding together of my love for photography and my love for computing – the digital darkroom. The digital revolution has brought back for me the magic that was a wet darkroom with none of the related hassles. I sit here today in front of my trusty PC with Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom, a Canon 1D Mark II with a bag full of lenses and an Epson 4800 Ultrachrome K3 printer. With these items I have returned to my passion at full speed.
The fact that Nancy and I share this passion, is an extra bonus for sure! We both get psyched up as we get closer to a weekend full of adventure and photography out in the wild country!!
Nature photography is for us the best type of photography. It gets Nancy and I out to see and appreciate what can at times be so fleeting in our busy lives – the wild country. Our photography has helped us to become much more aware of our natural world.
So that’s me as it applies to the world of photography. I have so much more to learn about both photography and nature!!
